Day trip to Doñana National Park from Seville
Hotel or accommodation*
Visit Doñana National Park, El Rocío and Matalascañas beach
Our day trip to Doñana National Park will allow you to immerse yourself in nature, departing from Seville accompanied by a specialist guide.
We will begin with a stop in the Seville town of Puebla del Río, located at the gateway to the Doñana marshes. This municipality, crossed by the Guadalquivir River, is home to one of the best-preserved wild olive forests in the area: the Dehesa de Abajo, home to the largest colony of white storks in Europe. From the small hill in this pasture, you can enjoy unbeatable views of hundreds of birds in their natural habitat and the open landscape of the marsh.
Every year, the Doñana marshes welcome more than 300 species of birds, establishing themselves as one of the most important natural areas in Europe. The area is also notable for being home to Spain’s largest rice field in terms of cultivated area.
We will continue our journey to the famous village of El Rocío, known throughout the country for its annual pilgrimage. Its sandy streets, travelled by horses and pedestrians, evoke the Andalusia of centuries past, offering a feeling of travelling back in time. Here we will visit the Sanctuary of Nuestra Señora del Rocío, where more than a million people gather every year during the pilgrimage.
After exploring the village, we will travel by 4×4 to the Palacio del Acebrón, next to the Arroyo de la Rocina stream, to discover another ecosystem in Doñana: the gallery forest. We will go on a circular hiking route, learning to interpret animal tracks and discovering plant species endemic to the area.
Once we reach the end of the trail and after a short break to enjoy a lunch featuring typical local products, we will head to the next ecosystem: the beach. Doñana beach is the longest unspoilt beach in Spain, with shifting dunes where you can observe its characteristic flora and fauna. Weather permitting, you can take a refreshing dip; we recommend bringing your swimwear in summer.
At dusk, we will begin our return journey to Seville, crossing the wooded area of the park, where we will have the opportunity to spot large mammals such as deer, foxes and wild boars, and with a bit of luck, the iconic Iberian lynx.
