Heritage Seville: Las Setas, La Macarena and Palacio de Dueñas
A tour of Seville: Cardo Máximo
A tour of the most important monuments in the northern historic centre of Seville. See the beauty of the Metropol Parasol and Calle Feria, and explore the famous Macarena district, Calle San Luis and the Palacio de las Dueñas.
The tour will begin at the Metropol Parasol. This space is home to both the most modern and the oldest tourist areas in the city of Seville.
Seville’s ‘Las Setas’ will be the starting point of our tour. We will continue towards Calle Feria, where we will pass by the Church of San Juan de la Palma, an iconic site in the city and the birthplace of one of the oldest street markets in the world. The street will lead us to the Mudejar Palace of the Marquises of La Algaba, situated next to the Church of Omnium Sanctorum, both representing the city’s medieval past.
We will cross the heart of the Macarena district to reach its Basilica, an opportunity to see the Virgin of Macarena, the city’s most famous icon, the ancient city walls and one of the medieval gates that have withstood the passage of the centuries.
The route will continue along the city’s ancient Cardo Máximo, which forms the backbone of our walk, Calle San Luis, where we will pass through Plaza del Pumarejo to reach the Mudejar Church of Santa Marina and discover the curiosities surrounding the church and its surroundings.
We will then head south towards the neighbouring Church of San Luis de los Franceses, a jewel of Sevillian Baroque architecture that is also situated on this famous street. We will marvel at its magnificent embossed Baroque exterior decoration.
After visiting the church, we will continue past the Church of San Marcos, taking in the charm of the surroundings. The route will take us back to the city centre.
We will conclude our tour by arriving at the Palacio de Dueñas, where our visit will end inside the palace.
The most famous of the House of Alba and the former private residence of the Duchess. We will stroll through its gardens and various rooms before concluding this tour, which lasts over 3 hours.
