Day trip to Italica from Seville
Explore the ancient Roman city and relive history in Italica
You will begin your half day trip to Italica from Seville, delving into the Roman history of Andalusia. In just 15 minutes you will arrive at the town of Santiponce, where more than 2,000 years ago the Romans founded their first city on the Iberian Peninsula. Your official guide will introduce you to this fascinating enclave, the birthplace of emperors such as Hadrian and Trajan, so that you can discover all its secrets.
As you stroll through the ancient streets of Italica, you can admire mosaics, thermal baths and stately homes such as the House of Neptune and the House of the Birds, enjoying a walk full of surprising images and authentic archaeological treasures.
You won’t want to miss the Amphitheatre of Italica, the third largest in the world, with a capacity for 25,000 spectators and the scene of historic gladiatorial combats. You can walk around the arena and explore its galleries, transporting yourself back to the era of ancient Rome.
You will also visit the Roman Theatre of Italica, discovered in the mid-20th century, one of the best preserved in Europe, which continues to be used for events such as the prestigious Santiponce International Dance Festival.
After the archaeological tour, you will visit the Monastery of San Isidoro del Campo, a medieval fortress that houses valuable Mudejar, Gothic and Baroque treasures, including paintings, murals and sculptures of great historical interest.
At the end of the visit, you will return to Seville, taking with you a unique experience that combines Roman history, archaeological heritage and Andalusian culture. This excursion to Italica and Santiponce is ideal for discovering the historical richness of Andalusia in just half a day.
